Apple has announced the iOS 8 with a lot of new features. It not only has visual changes but it’s packed with all kinds of new things. Here is a list of cool features.
This is quite a bit different. Apple has introduced a new interactive notification feature to let you reply immediately to a message, and this feature is possible even when you are on the lock screen mode. It looks a lot like the interactive notifications from OS X Mavericks.
Mail Editing Feature
There are a few new Mail features which let you use swiping gestures to go directly from a message you’re composing to your inbox. You can check inbox mail while you’re in the middle of a draft, and then you can pop right back in to the message you were drafting by tapping at the bottom of the screen.
This is a similar function to Android’s autofill. When you type a message the keyboard supports keyword auto-suggestions to let you autofill quickly. This will help you type quicker than before. Plus, it also knows who you’re talking to! It will make more precise predictions that are right for the type of conversation you are having. For instance, it will give you different suggestions depending on if you are texting your boss or your girlfriend.
This is a really exiting feature. Continuity allows you to extend the current iOS tasks you are working on to OS X Yosemite, a new Mac OS that will be released soon as a free update. The phone, iPad and computer will be aware of each other, and while you are in the middle of a task, you can switch from one to the other with a simple tap. You may be composing a message on your phone, and your Mac running Yosemite will automatically add an icon to the dock, letting you finish the message on the Mac. Even more exciting is that Continuity extends to phone calls as well. This means you could place or pick up a phone call on your Mac.
iOS 8 now includes a new app called Health that allows you to instantly access all your health information. You can also integrate third-party apps and track all your health data at once.
One of the really cool things in this new OS is the Family Sharing capability. Now you can set up a boundary called “family” in your iTunes account so that you can share photo streams, reminders, Find my Friends information, Calendar, and all of your media from the iTunes store. This kind of sharing is available for up to six family members.
Siri gets a few new updates, including “Hey, Siri”. Now you can simply say “Hey, Siri” and Siri will pop up to take your orders. Shazam song recognition and a bunch of new languages are also included.
iOS 8 will be available in the northern Fall.
